Marc Lottering has extensive experience in both theatre and TV, and has written no fewer than 16 one-man shows for the stage, earning him two Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards, a Naledi Award and several nominations along the way.
He has also penned two critically acclaimed musicals, Aunty Merle – The Musical, and Aunty Merle – It’s a Girl! Marc has performed in London, Toronto, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Auckland and Dubai. More recently, in 2020, he broke local online show records with his first online performance, when My Fellow South Africans sold more than 17 000 tickets.
Marc says, “I’m happy to be able to perform to live audiences once again, albeit at 50% capacity. During lockdown, I essentially resorted to doing online shows, which initially was a nightmare for me. It took some getting used to, just playing to two camera people with zero laughter. Stand-up comedy needs a live audience.”
Marc teaches a MyMastery course (part of an online offering that includes instructional classes from local business and entertainment icons), and is candid about what he covers. “I will share with you the ins and outs, the highs and lows of my career in comedy. I will talk to you about the people who’ve inspired me, how I’ve created my characters, I will also talk to you about when to know you’re a comedian, and when to know that you’re not a comedian. I will share with you my secret formulas to storytelling and lessons learnt from a life spent on stage.”
Audiences can expect great things from Marc as he’s been busy as ever. “I’ve been on the road for the past five months with my new stand-up show Uncle Marc. It has thus far been extremely well received.”
Marc visits the UK later this year, performing at London’s Leicester Square Theatre on 3 September. Plans are also underway to visit Australia, New Zealand and Namibia. Watch this space!
