Showcasing Jozi

Lara Bolle recently created a series of pieces called Showcasing Jozi – art created to bring some insight to the beautiful city of Johannesburg … but these small pieces of joy have brought so much more happiness to everyone who sees them. Her friend, Robynne-Ashley Hauptfleisch, believes that Lara’s work deserves to be seen.

“Lara, you are amazing and your art is inspiring and thoughtful and creative and emotional. They are absolutely beautiful and remind us, as South Africans going through a lot at the moment, that our country and our architecture and our history [are] rich and vibrant and colourful and tragic and uniquely beautiful all at the same time,” she explained to Good Things Guy.

Those who’ve seen Lara’s art agree. Positive comments have been flowing in since the pieces were posted to Instagram.

Construction for the Orlando Power Station commenced in 1939 when the demand for electricity exceeded supply in Jozi. Construction was delayed by World War II and the final phase completed in 1955. These are the cooling towers that were built in 1951 to assist with the power station’s cooling system. The power station was decommissioned in 1998. The towers are known today for their murals and base and bungee jumping, along with various appearances in film and TV. Address: Chris Hand Road, Klipspruit, Johannesburg.
