The Big Issue is South Africa’s number one magazine and social enterprise, creating opportunities to end poverty and exclusion. Our vendors are those people who’ve taken steps to help themselves. The Big Issue can be purchased from vendors in the suburbs of Cape Town, or from select Spar or Pick n Pay stores nationally.

Dream job: To become a social worker or nurse, because she loves helping people. As a short-term goal, Noloyiso would like to do a home-based course.
Education and courses: Completed Grade 12, then studied social work but stopped due to lack of funds. Noloyiso has experience in retail, is a fast learner, and is self-motivated. She has previously worked as a cashier and manager of a store.
Wish list: Noloyiso would like to further her studies in nursing or social work. She would also like to get her driver’s licence. She is a poet and a great performer and would love to use this personal skill professionally if she is granted an opportunity.

Number of children: Three
Dreams job: Luvo wants to find formal employment. He lives in Philippi and has many responsibilities, but his biggest burden is having to take care of his siblings. Luvo has lost both his parents and is the first-born in his family. As a result, the burden of responsibility lies with him and he needs to ensure that everyone’s needs are met before his own.
Dream job: A security role of any sort.
Education and courses: Luvo gained previous experience in factory work when he was in Johannesburg. He also worked in a factory in Cape Town where they made cycling shorts so he has experience in machine pressing and designing these sports garments. He also once worked for Shoprite.
Wish list: Help to obtain a security certificate. Luvo would like to have a security qualification to his name.
