Kamva Goso, 18, from Philippi is living proof that township schools can produce some of our country’s top achievers. We recently caught up with the young genius who achieved top marks in the 2018 final matric examination.
Like many matriculants living in townships, Kamva Goso has not had an easy life. Raised by a single parent, the 18-year-old from Intsebenziswano Secondary School in Philippi did not let his circumstances hinder his dreams.
Kamva obtained seven distinctions in the 2018 final matric examinations, with 100% in physical science and geography despite his limited resources.
He was the top achiever for physical science in the Western Cape and came second in the country for the same subject. He was also named the top student of all Quintile 2 schools in the country. Quintile 2 schools are schools that are not allowed to charge fees. His top marks in the 2018 final examinations also earned him R16 000, a laptop and a cellphone from the Western Cape Education Department.
