Solomon’s star on the rise

“I’m a breadwinner. I have to look after my brothers’ kids and mine because my brothers have passed on. Out of four siblings, I’m the only one left, so I have to pay rent and provide for my family and myself.

“The social department of The Big Issue helped me to study … the principal at the college paid for my fees. At the moment I’m working as a home-based carer … however, I’m still selling The Big Issue, because I get to make extra income.

“ I won’t stop selling the publication yet, because that money is helping me a lot and I’m accustomed to selling it. I’m able to sell 300 copies a month and you can imagine how much I make, more especially now we are approaching the festive season – tourists will be buying the magazine non-stop.”
