Forage & Feast

Lauren McShane joins wild food forager and educator, Roushanna Gray, founder of Veld and Sea in Cape Point, to forage for wild food in preparation for a delicious feast. As we strive to eat more healthily and live sustainably within cities, there is a need to look beyond ordinary grocery stores and return to growing and gathering wild food.

A sense of place

Not just the oldest game reserve in Africa, but also the oldest Zulu hunting ground, the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park is a very special place to visit. It is home to the largest concentrations of white and black rhinos, elephants and lions in the country. Recently, tracts of tribal land of 6 000 hectares were incorporated into the main reserve.

Khayelitsha

A Tourism hub in the Cape Flats, Khayelitsha lives up to its Xhosa name, ‘Our New Home’. Traditionally tourism in Cape Town is focused around the pristine beaches of the Atlantic Seaboard, the buzz in the city centre, a few restaurants in the southern suburbs and the bucolic winelands. The Cape Flats is mostly ignored or presented as a novel afterthought. This is changing though, with a determined group of entrepreneurs who are putting Khayelitsha on the map for the right reasons.

Hot Water

Donovan Copley, lead singer of the band Hot Water and father to three children, chats to us about his music and plans for the future … The musical style of Hot Water is heavily influenced by South African music from the 1960s as well as the sounds of mbaqanga and jive.
