Nkosikho Tom

Maternal instincts

Words: Alicia English

Hailing from the Eastern Cape, Nkosikho Tom (30) came to Cape Town to seek employment opportunities and pursue his dream of being a musician.

The father of two boys, aged one and eight, started selling The Big Issue in 2019 at the corner of Stanhope Road and Main Road, Claremont. Nkosikho is a hip-hop artist, writes his own lyrics and dreams of one day being discovered so he can have his big break in the music industry.

“Apart from doing music, I’d like to study further and be a social worker.

I’m a big dreamer and I believe in my dreams; one day I would also like to own a clothing boutique and build a house for my family,” he says.

Nkosikho is hoping that his experience working in retail and his previous stint as a security officer will help him to find future employment to help realise all his dreams.
