The Big Issue #266

  • 20 September to 19 October 2018
Madiba’s centenary brings a spark of light to a chaotic post-apartheid South Africa. We’re featuring SA’s top press photographers in this issue, all of whom had the honour of working with and photographing Mandela during his life.

There’s a humanitarian boldness that’s both visually and literally apparent in the pictures and stories of the top press photographers who journeyed by Madiba’s side. His iconic humility and humour touched our hearts. We can only hope and wish that this type of empathic awareness is carried into the spirit of South Africans to help our nation evolve.

Cape Town’s World of Monkey Sanctuary and Wildlife Park is in a crisis. The 45-year old animal rehabilitation concern is threatened with closure for several reasons and it’s an issue. There are a few simple things you can do to help.

Find out how Australian tap phenomenon TapDogs grew from a simple backyard act to an international phenomenon. They visit Cape Town in August and there are free tickets up for grabs.
