Voluntourism is one of the fastest-growing trends in the travel sector. Voluntourists flock to South Africa’s shores every year to invest their time, skills and money into vulnerable communities and nature conservation.
Bambini Dream Foundation (www.bambinidream.org) in Woodstock has been working with underprivileged children affected by violence, gangsterism, abuse, poverty and neglect since 2013. One of its key projects involves mentoring 13 youth from Blikkiesdorp, Delft, through music, art and cognitive therapies.
The organisation relies, among others, on voluntourism programmes to run its projects more effectively.
“We have worked with volunteers from Russia, Italy, Spain, England, Switzerland and Portugal. Our focus is mostly on people giving their skills and time,” says Tarryn Tomlinson, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Bambini Dream Foundation.
