Making waves for climate change

Having made an indelible mark on many walls in Cape Town, Nardstar* is kicking every stereotype about female street artists to the curb, from Mitchell’s Plain to Paris and back again.
Nardstar* has left her mark on abandoned buildings, train tunnels, and even cars and caravans around the world. She puts a fresh spin on traditional graffiti, using a strong colour palette with doses of cubism and well-defined lines.
At home in Cape Town, her creative genius can be spotted at the Two Oceans Aquarium and on many walls around the city. Her most famous being the strelitzia in Salt River.
I recently had the privilege of stepping into Nardstar*’s world for a few hours at her Woodstock studio. Her serene, modest demeanour is complemented by sensitivity, a quiet strength and radiant smile that lights up when she talks about her work.
