He’s one of South Africa’s best loved sons of comedy. Having endeared himself to television audiences during SABC’s popular Going Nowhere Slowly show, veteran stand-up Stuart Taylor has delivered on his mission to provide laughter, fun and joy. We dissect how he keeps “spreading those good vibes”.
From holding his parents hostage in their Grassy Park home with his three-hour magic show to playing to audiences on stages worldwide, this maestro of comedy styling has come full circle.
For two decades Stuart Taylor has kept the gags coming, notching up laughs as well as awards along the way. Special to him is winning the Ovation Award for his show, BeSpoke and the Showtime Award for Techni-Coloured.
By his own admission, Stuart loves interrogating the human condition. He writes his own comic material and adds “so do the people whom I observe in public every day”.
He recalls that magical day when, at only 10, he regaled his parents with a marathon three-hour magic show in the family lounge – without an intermission. “I didn’t understand the concept of ‘leaving them wanting more’,” he quips.
That was then. Stuart, now 42, has mastered the art of suspense while maintaining his ability to hold his audiences spellbound.
