The Rainbow Academy, a non-profit organisation in Cape Town, is grooming the Mother City’s aspiring performance artists who want to make their mark in the industry.
Established in the marginalised Cape Town community of Bridgetown in 2008, Reconstructed Living Labs (RLabs) works to bring about social and economic change by equipping people with the skills needed to create their own economic opportunities.
“Many of the challenges facing communities in South Africa actually represent opportunities that can be turned into businesses and have the potential to create jobs for others,” says RLabs founder Marlon Parker.
This visionary decided to take on the challenges of drugs, gangsterism and unemployment on the Cape Flats by using innovative and disruptive technology to provide marginalised youth with vital skills, much-needed support, and a sense of hope and community.
