Join Justus Visagie as he heads towards the Northern Cape to drive one of South Africa’s less-traversed mountain passes.
A long line of cars creeps past us as we stop at the fuel station in Ceres to drop the pressure of the Isuzu’s off-road tyres. “They think they’ll find snow, but they’re in for a surprise,” our fuel attendant says with a grin.
Ceres is the gateway to snow in the Western Cape – if there is any. Powder chasers flock to the town in hopes of finding white-capped peaks in the Matroosberg and Waboomsbeg mountains.
