Nomakhosina Sola

Gentle Gogo

Words: Alicia English

Nomakhosina Sola has been proudly representing The Big Issue at her pitch on the corner of Glengariff Road and Beach Road, Sea Point.

The hardworking 64-year-old vendor has been selling the magazine since 2011 and is one of The Big Issue’s top sellers in the area. Nomakhosina is known on and off her pitch as a kind, loving and soft-spoken person, which is also evident from her extensive customer base. She also loves her family dearly, and enjoys singing and attending church.

Nomakhosina is a widow and mother of six children (one son sadly passed away) and six grandchildren.

She would like to run her own business and open a spaza shop from home to earn extra income so that she can help her kids complete school and further their studies.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Nomakhosina needs help with starting a spaza shop from home, extending her shack and paying for her children’s school and tertiary education fees.

If you would like to assist him, contact The Big Issue office on 021 461 6690 or email info@ bigissue.org.za.
