Big Issue calls on business community

The Big Issue is on an urgent drive to raise funds to ensure the survival of this job creation and social development project. Like a number of other NGOs have recently, The Big Issue is feeling the very serious effects of the financial crunch.

We operate on a mix of grant funding, income from sales of the magazine and advertising revenues. As a direct result of the recession, advertising and magazine sales have declined and, at the same time, funding from national and international donors is drying up. You could say it’s the perfect storm of financial setbacks.

Marijuana legal reform reaches ‘tipping point’ in US

In what may be a silent admission that the “war on drugs” has failed abysmally, there’s been a flurry of recent activity signalling that, much like same-sex marriage, marijuana policies have reached a tipping point in the US.
