October 29, 2015Airplane restroom signs are pretty obvious to most people. But somehow a passenger on a recent KLM flight from Edinburgh to Amsterdam tried to open the wrong door – the plane’s exit door.
According to The Telegraph, the jet was cruising at 30 000 feet (more than 9km above ground) when James Gray tried to open the door. Now that’s what we call a long drop.
“The crew told me to stay in my seat and I was to be arrested when the plane landed,” Gray later told the newspaper. “I tried to explain it was a simple mistake… The police came and arrested me. They weren’t too friendly.”
Not only did the Scotsman spend the night in a detention centre, but he also had to pay a €600 fine and walked away with a five-year ban from the airline.
Gray borrowed money to take a different airline back to Scotland. Let’s hope he didn’t need to use the loo.
