World Press Freedom Day falls on May 3, 2013. Award-winning Scottish author Jean Rafferty campaigns with Scottish Pen, an association of writers pledged to protect freedom of expression. Her article highlights the cases of Turkish publisher Ragip Zarakolu, Liu Xiaobo and the courageous Mexican journalist Lydia Cacho, all of whom have been persecuted for speaking truth to power.
